Eileen
Faxas is an emerging singer-songwriter who wakes up with songs
running through her head, who straddles the English and Spanish-speaking
worlds with equal ease, who possesses a powerful voice and
mesmerizing stage presence laced with unexpected wit, and
who also has a gorgeous head of red hair she can rarely pull
a comb through...
Born in Miami of Cuban parents, Eileen
began singing at about the time she began speaking. As soon
as she learned to play the guitar, she started writing songs...putting
music to poems and greeting cards. Unaware of potential copyright
infringement lawsuits, the 8-year old Eileen fortunately began
writing her own lyrics to her music, a practice she's continued
and refined into adulthood.
Today, Eileen Faxas packs an emotional
wallop with a soaring voice that can blast and whisper with
equal power. Thanks to her Cuban & American upbringing,
she finds inspiration in both worlds...writing songs in both
languages and cross genres as she crosses over. Her debut
CD "Dance Cry Swing" showcases her multicultural
upbringing and musical influences, flowing from Salsa to Power
Pop to Jazz. And the full impact of her voice truly comes
to shine in her ballads, while her upbeat music entices -
no, demands - you hit the dance floor.
Eileen describes her CD as "a
musical journey. It takes you through joy, loss, love, hope
and seduction...just like life! But shorter."
The intriguing story behind the story
-- and shouldn't every superstar have one -- is that Eileen
was a successful TV reporter who won a bunch of awards for
her work. But in a Jerry Maguire-esque scene minus Renee Zellwegger,
Eileen quit her big-time TV job to follow her musical muse
full-time. Prominent music producer Dan Workman, who has worked
with the likes of Destiny's Child and ZZ Top, produced "Dance
Cry Swing" and called Eileen "one of the most natural
songwriters I've ever met". Houston Chronicle music writer
Joey Guerra called her "a more accessible Tori Amos."
Not a compliment-seeker by nature, Eileen nevertheless was
pleased by such descriptions.
A dynamic performer with an evocative
songwriting style and at ease in a bicultural, bilingual world,
Eileen Faxas is poised to become a true original... an artist
with immeasurable international appeal.
